Strangest place you've collected a West ham player's autograph
|
Going to Sir Trev's book signing before the Bournemouth game reminded me of going to the car park of the old Chelmsford Odeon on a Sunday morning in the 80's where David Cross was sat in the back of his old VW Camper (orange & white as I remember) signing autographs. He was there specifically to sign autographs, not a book signing or anything like that, very weird!
And before you ask, there was no inappropriate behaviour on his part, although I did sneak a cheeky fart out!

Probably in the changing room with Di Canio as he was being massaged. Either that or on a main road in Rome as I was getting out of his car as he dropped us at the airport.

I've never really got the hole autograph thing, so I'm with you bungo as I've never asked anyone for one in my life.
Ray Stewart once refused to sign for a mate at Chadwell Heath which was amusing. Miserable Scottish git :o)

I actually find it a bit weird. Especially if the autographer is working their way down a line of people signing various things.
Everyone's kind of silent waiting their turn when they should be really excited at meeting their idol. Actually it removes the 'meeting your idol' bit as the meeting is reduced to a no eye contact couple of seconds, with the 'celebrity' hurriedly scribbling their name before moving on swiftly.
I don't even want to meet anyone famous these days as there can be nothing I've got to say to them, that would be remotely interesting. I've turned down a couple of 'meet and greet' opportunities for that reason.
Autographs seem to have become a business these days with people flogging them on Ebay left, right and centre.

The biggest business on ebay is selling fake autographs. 9 in 10 autographs are fake on there. Ebay are more than aware of the problem but don't seem to do anything about it.

I find that odd too.
Unless the person is dead, why would anyone want an autograph that they didn't get themselves? What's the value other then monetary?

Don Hutchison in the middle of the WACA ground in Perth. West Ham were having a training session before playing Western Australia the next day in May 1995(?). Was the game where Stan Lazarides ran Tim Breaker ragged so they signed him & took him back to London. 2-2 & WA won on pens.
